Synopsis:
April 1945: In these last days of the war, a group of twenty Hungarian Jews on their death march towards the concentration camp Mauthausen camps in a hay barn on the outskirts of a small village. The onward march is delayed because the SS chain of command breaks. In this situation, the prisoner Lou Gandolf, an opera singer from Budapest, decides to persuade his fellow sufferers to rehearse the operetta "Wiener Blut" for a private performance in the barn. He wants to stir the sympathy of the farmer Traudl Fasching, whose husband Stefan owns the barn where the prisoners are stored. For the Fasching couple, the encounter with those condemned to death becomes a new chance for their broken marriage.
